Bookmarks to beat bogus callers

Southend Neighbourhood Watch, the Library Service and Southend Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) have teamed up to produce a free new bookmark giving clear practical advice to local residents on how best to beat bogus callers.

Bogus callers are con men (or women) who use a variety of stories to gain access to the home in order to commit burglary. Police records show that many victims of this type of crime, known as 'distraction burglary' are often older people who live alone.
Bogus callers may also pose as tradesmen or as a representative from trusted organisations, such as utility companies or even a local council.

Free copies of the clear print bookmark are available from all branch libraries, Mobile Library Service and Southend Neighbourhood Watch.
To order large quantities of the free bookmark, please contact Mick Holland at Southend Neighbourhood Watch, on 01702 464199 or email southendnhw@aol.com
